-As Hip Hop continues to provide a voice to those often overlooked by society, this Panel of Native artists will share how the culture is a constructive outlet to address the ongoing issues facing the Native community in the U.S.
The Hip Hop Congress (www.hiphopcongress.com) will host its First Ever Minnesota Summit: Politics, Globalization and the Hip Hop Generation from Friday, February 17th through Sunday February 19th, 2006.The Summit will bring together a diverse group of people who comprise this youth-driven, youth-based, and youth-inspiring community. The goal of this years summit is to connect those interested in Hip Hop with education, social consciousness and community action.
Activities will feature a major concert featuring renowned Hip Hop artists and will include workshops, panels and discussion on prominent domestic and world issues related to Hip Hop, Race, Politics, HIV/AIDS and Globalization. Each will feature prominent artists including, Proof from the World-famous group D12, Somalian Refugee rapper Knaan, Hip Hop Activist The Bedouin and many more. Hip Hop Congress, since 1993, has been building on the strength of people and relationships. This summit is a big opportunity for all sorts of people to come together face to face, participate in engaging workshops, have fun and build connections in our region and nationwide.

-One-hour introductory session into effective Community Organizing by an organization doing significant work in the Fargo-Moorhead community. This session will be followed up with a more extensive two-hour session on Sunday morning from 10am Noon.

-These talented artist will share tips, techniques and approaches to strengthening your poetic expression.
Hip Hop Congress National Initiative on Hip Hop and Education w/ Shamako Noble President of Hip Hop Congress

-Learn about the effort to implement the use of Hip Hop Curriculum and Lesson Plans that have been developed for use at all levels of education. This session will also provide some educational techniques that have been developed by Hip Hop Congress and other organizational partners that continuously looking for new ways to effectively educate young people.

-Discuss with Hip Hop artist/activists M-1 of Dead Prez, The Bedouin, Hip Hop Congress President Shamako Noble, musician Alex Schein, poet Nazeeha TruAysia, Toki Wright of The C.O.R.E. and others on why Hip Hop remains a vehicle of expression tied to social action, political dissent and activism. The discussion will cover the role of Hip Hop in addressing the greatest human challenges of our day including Globalization, Media and Gender, HIV/AIDS, War, Racism, Classism and much more.
