Emptiness

There’s always been someone who slangs to drug thirsty veins
Those giving up something for something that takes worries away
Until the day the worries stray and eyes remain open and blank
When another gets the shock that has them joining these ranks
Finding out the going rates and trading away life for pain
Intent on blessing themselves with another step towards the grave
Paying for the praise on how fiends are only good for one thing
Temporary customers only good on what type of wealth they bring
No sad songs to sing when they ask for the sting others avoid
To stay in one place or chase habits away is their personal choice
Leaving alone or using their voice isn’t for anyone else but them
Knowing exactly what broke their spirit, how it happened, and when
A nightmare of hardships to mend not defend or pretend wasn’t there
Eyes and hands involved in situations they would rather not share
Trying to spare the next in line from the time they served
Like how they reveal the real ways a tormented soul can burn
