RezX to Celebrate Comeback Issue with Official Launch Party in Edmonton; Will Belcourt, Shawn Bernard and Advo set to perform, among others.
New issue will be available!

Edmonton, AB - It will be an evening where the Aboriginal music stars come out to shine, as RezX is planning a Hollywood after party theme for their launch party, so dress to impress. But more important is the "Official Release" of the magazine, as print editions will be available FIRST to attendees before they go out in April. Most of the artists performing are also featured in the magazine and will be on hand for autographs afterwards.

So please come out and support RezX - The New Voice of Aboriginal Arts & Entertainment! Pick up the new edition and find out why RezX is the hottest new Aboriginal Magazine in Canada serving a mature audience of 18-34. It's a New Beginning, a New Day and a New Voice!

Although the poster reads, "Official Launch Party" it doesn't mean it's the first time around for the people behind RezX. It simply means a new beginning for the magazine after a 3-year hiatus while morphing into an Aboriginal Arts & Entertainment publication. To celebrate this new beginning, RezX is inviting everyone to attend the REZX MAGAZINE - OFFICIAL LAUNCH PARTY on Saturday, March 29th at The Starlite Room in Edmonton, Alberta!

For this spectacular event, RezX has invited some of the best Aboriginal artists that Edmonton has to offer including cover artist, Shawn Bernard aka FEENIX, rock/blues artist, Will Belcourt, Stressed Street recording artist, Advo and Billy Blackout and Rellik of Won18 and recently added solo sensation, Anasaz.

Although, the evening won't be all performances as DJ CreeAsian will be spinning the club hits all night to keep the party going!

TICKETS: Only $10 Advance / $12 Cover
Ticket Price and Door Cover Does NOT include Starlite Room membership Fee of $5.00 (although membership allows you to bring 1 guest so you save $2.50, so bring a friend!)
For Tickets call Shelley @ 780.293.5018 / Chris @ 780.916.0241
E-mail: rezxeditor@gmail.com
Web: www.AboriginalYouth.net

ABOUT THE NEW REZX

RezX originally started in 2004 as Saskatchewan's Aboriginal youth magazine but went on a 3-year hiatus after only 3 issues. During their hiatus RezX transformed into a music promotions company hosting almost 25 events across Canada featuring Aboriginal music artists of all genres. So it was no surprise that when RezX returned it was morphed into an Aboriginal Arts & Entertainment publication while becoming the first Aboriginal youth magazine to go digital! RezX has fully embraced the Internet's capabilities making its publication available globally through its Digi-Mags which users can download at www.AboriginalYouth.net starting March 14th. But for the limited print editions, readers can get them FIRST at the REZX MAGAZINE - OFFICIAL LAUNCH PARTY!

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Shawn Bernard aka FEENIX:

Shawn Bernard aka FEENIX, who appears on the cover of this issue of RezX Magazine has quite the story to tell. But it is his live performance that has created quite the buzz too, going from an artist no one knew much about to becoming an even bigger attraction! His club bouncin' beats mixed with raw material in his lyrics make for a great combination for any emcee.

Advo of Stressed Street:

Advo (short for Advokit) has consistently kept his name in the spotlight opening for big names on tour like Young Buck, The Game, Chamillionaire and Nas. He also runs his own group Non-Status (himself, NekkBone and Sundance) and recently became the latest member of Stressed Street Records. With a new album on the way, a new home with Double S and more shows to look forward to, this will definitely be Advo's break out year! Come find out why Advo is one of Edmonton's most talented performers!

Will Belcourt:

Will Belcourt is of Cree, Iroquois, and European descent and was born in the Métis community of Marlboro located in the Alberta foothills near the Rocky Mountains. His debut album, Full Moon Blanket, is a unique mixture of folk, blues and rock delivered with heartfelt purity and integrity. Belcourt wrote all songs, played all guitars, sang all vocals, almost all backing vocals, played all pianos, created all string arrangements, played and created all drums and percussions. Now for the first time, he will brings his live show to the people!

Billy Blackout and Rellik of Won18:

Won18 consisting of the trio; Billy Blackout, Rellik and Plex, have been a staple to the Edmonton hip hop scene for many years, getting their name from the infamous 118 Avenue where they grew up on. Their latest offering, 'The Dirty Boulevard" won critical reviews giving each member a chance to create solo projects, but still remaining loyal to the group. Although Plex will be absent, Billy Blackout and Rellik are sure to keep it energetic!

Anasaz:

After splitting from the group REDDNATION and going solo, Anasaz plans to keep things fresh in '08. So far his solo career looks promising since many in the industry consider him to be one the finest lyricists in the game. Many of his songs reflect the hardships of native youth including one song that was a tribute to single mothers which won him a lot of critical acclaim. But he's still young and he's still got more bangers coming your way in '08, as Anasaz will keep it hyped when he performs at this event….as always!

DJ CreeAsian:

DJ CreeAsian is one of the most respected and talented DJs and Bboys on the Edmonton circuit and has built his name all by himself. Through break dancing and DJing, he has continued to be a staple to Edmonton's underground scene, promoting shows, bboy events and DJing regularly. After and in between all the performances, CreeAsian will be serving up everything from old school to new school to club bouncin' bangers to Top 40 to keep the party going!

“‘Finally'…is probably the best word to describe it” explained Ross, “we’ve finished all our photo shoots, writing, editing and just now wrapping up production, and I can tell you it’s the best work we’ve ever done as a magazine!”

RezX, which originally began in 2004 as Saskatchewan’s Aboriginal youth magazine, stopped printing in early 2005 due to new competition. But they didn’t stop there, they kept the brand name alive through their new music division, RezX Promotions hosting over 20 sold out events across Canada featuring Aboriginal music artists of all genres. So it is no surprise that The New RezX has been revamped as an Arts & Entertainment Magazine geared for a more mature audience of 18-34, but still Aboriginal Youth (under Government Standards).

Along with change, comes a new talented team as well. As mentioned earlier, RezX has partnered with Edmonton based Liquid Trends, which is owned by Ryan Janvier, who recently created the first Aboriginal Face Book Application, MyTribe. Some of RezX’s newest members include; Associate Editors Jonathon Potskin, who started Calgary’s first Aboriginal Youth Magazine, NEW TRIBE; and Shelley Collins, a very talented Metis writer and editor, who has contributed a great deal to the Come Back Edition. And finally the RezX News Team which includes Cowboy Smithx, a talented playwright, filmmaker and writer and Arsan Buffin, an alternative type photographer who did the Shawn Bernard cover shoot.

RezX founder, Chris Tyrone Ross, who started the first Aboriginal youth magazine in Canada, Gen-X (1997-2001) says, “It’s an Aboriginal youth team like no other!” But it’s what inside the magazine that will have people talking. The New RezX will feature Critical Aboriginal Music and Movie Reviews (where no one is safe), Digital Reviews, Features, Exclusive Interviews, Arts & Culture, Artist/Actor Profiles, Fashion and the latest inside scoops of the Entertainment Industry.

Although, Ross says the Arts & Entertainment factor is only there to make readers aware of the more important social issues covered like; urban life, careers, youth, politics, gang awareness, Identity and role models. Other regular sections will include Aboriginal Women of the Rise, Eye on the Media and Youth Issues. As mentioned earlier are the cover stories; Shawn Bernard AKA Feenix, a former gang member who turned his life around using hip hop as a way to reach Native Youth and another artist, whose cover will be revealed when the magazine is launched.

“The New RezX is not about pushing the envelope, selling sex, being controversial or going against the grain, it’s merely a reflection of the times,” explained Ross, “From the population growth of Aboriginal youth to Aboriginals migrating to the city dealing with rising rents and living expenses to reserve issues like welfare, high suicides rates and unemployment, it’s a very difficult time to be Aboriginal. But if you include how the digital age is changing everything through music, arts, film, modeling and new media then it’s an entirely different era all together, which makes it an exciting time too!”

With respect to the overall Aboriginal and mainstream media, RezX plans to offer a better alternative for young adults. According to the 2006 Census survey, the entire Aboriginal population increased by 42% in the last decade with 60% of that population now living in urban areas with the average age of Aboriginal people being 27. Those are numbers that reflect the magazine and numbers not to be ignored says RezX’s Associate Editor Shelley Collins, “There’s so much talent in the Aboriginal community, RezX is a great medium to help expose that talent in order to help inspire and motivate those of us who are still struggling to reach our goals and aspirations!”
