Seeing Native To Native
~
Finally reached a point in life wondering where the time went
Also at that point reevaluating how that lost time was spent
It's not in us to leave one or the other hanging when in need
Together chased our dreams and seen some dreams keep the lead
Supported our team even if at times we couldn't agree
If ever there was a reason to leave, it wasn't from me
You breathed life into these lungs wanting to wither away
So many times I searched it out, but never did see an escape
Instead embraced by unchanging smiles, hugs, and handshakes
Life has so many flavors, I'm grateful until the last taste
Showed me my face, my place, and more important, my weight
There's a lot more on our plate, and that means more at stake
To see that, we felt the breaks, the aches, and the hate
All that encased inside to provide motivation to stay awake
Left every trace to say we were here and respected each step
Slipped up time to time, but in everything only gave our best

~Windreamer~

Emptiness
~
There’s always been someone who slangs to drug thirsty veins
Those giving up something for something that takes worries away
Until the day the worries stray and eyes remain open and blank
When another gets the shock that has them joining these ranks
Finding out the going rates and trading away life for pain
Intent on blessing themselves with another step towards the grave
Paying for the praise on how fiends are only good for one thing
Temporary customers only good on what type of wealth they bring
No sad songs to sing when they ask for the sting others avoid
To stay in one place or chase habits away is their personal choice
Leaving alone or using their voice isn’t for anyone else but them
Knowing exactly what broke their spirit, how it happened, and when
A nightmare of hardships to mend not defend or pretend wasn’t there
Eyes and hands involved in situations they would rather not share
Trying to spare the next in line from the time they served
Like how they reveal the real ways a tormented soul can burn

~Windreamer~

Frontline Views
~
Ever got presented an offer that bothered you so deeply
The ones I'm talking about come from those who know fiending
Publicly speaking about crack and meth without any hesitation
A shell of their former selves and still trying intimidation
These are somebodies to somebody who cries feeling helpless
The stories involved come from everyone who's ever felt this
Addicts tell it from the frontlines of dying by their own hands
Former allies share from being scared of the sickness they have
We collapse in a heap of broken hearts trying to hold onto hope
Suppliers constantly under fire desire the monetary growth
The legal side goes for broke to revoke freedom in their own ways
They need the bottom line; another conviction to close the case
Now add in the crates of firearms and all the parts are ready
Consider this a game, and the game can quickly turn deadly
Not some but many parts make this vicious cycle stay in motion
Never the less there those of us hoping with hearts still broken

~Windreamer~

Dissolved Clouds
~
I know I'm a mess and yes, I know it's my own doing
The rez is a mess, I know because I've been through it
No more assuming, I'm trying to conclude on a good note
To see where I'm at you won't have to look high, but look low
Drastic measures took hold and weren't appreciated being used
Now there are difficult matters at hand from second chances I blew
Then there's the second guessing that almost grew into a way of life
Words of frustration I finally deciphered as aggressive advice
For a thick head like mine it took awhile to focus and see
These instincts I bring kept me treading water not sink
Seeing myself as proof that there's something more out there than this
These lessons in life that I already survived I'm trying to skip
Supplying the grit as a gift from having innocence slip away too soon
The lost thoughts of someone who cared too much begin to resume
A warrior's heart exhumed to prove there is some life after death
A shape shifting mask finally removed as the last action left

~Windreamer~

Poised and Ready
~
Some might not like how it looks, but I always hang with my natives
If there's a chance to show out and sound off, we'll take it
We're making plenty noise without the voice of reason around
Even if it is, don't be surprised to still see us throw down
Letting out war hoops in your face, but you don't know the answer
All you know is we're close and your heart starts to beat faster
The only thing is you don't matter cause we're after big game
Ready for anything at any time but steady is the aim we take
Our footsteps we don't trace, we got others doing that for us
Try to flank the ranks and you'll see how outsiders get tore up
We got so much more of those forces ready to be dispatched
Prepared to share the meaning of being involved in another mismatch
We always give back what we get, and that goes for both good and bad
We're ready for the worst and hope for the best everywhere we stand
Fighting for a fighting chance at one more song and owl dance
Our best we always show because it's unknown how long warriors have

~Windreamer~

Higher Standards, Part One
~
I know what I like and it's exactly what she's doing
It's spellbinding and I'm captivated by how she's moving
My self control in ruins and I'm doing things out of sync
The way she dances has me refusing all attempts to blink
Then she sings and the drum she holds is one she made
Took the deer's hide off with her hands and cut her own frame
I'm not the only one amazed with an image of beauty like her
She even put her own initials on her immaculately beaded purse
Her grandma taught her well and still smiles at all her works
No one gets passed grandma with knowing and appreciating her worth
You have to prove yourself deserving enough to sit in her presence
And to do that there's something you got to do to make an impression
Many seen attempts from both women and men get shot down for years
Even got laughs from those who tried without their minds clear
Grandma reared up and cussed them out in the old language we forgot
Embarrassed for their actions, they had no choice but to walk off

~Windreamer~

Higher Standards, Part Two
~
The protection is there and no one is spared from any scrutiny
Tribal councilman approached and left without any approval seen
Some tried to make a scene but had to leave just like the rest
Approached with gifts in hand but never succeeded in hearing 'yes'
Many feel this woman is their breath but always end up suffocating
Her grandma has standards but they're set so few will ever make it
There's no debating, she's just waiting for one complete like her
Grandma sees there's not many who look at self sacrifice first
I've learned this from hearing the words said with such determination
That memory I hold close and focus on every way to embrace it
I looked her straight in the eye while mine were bloodshot at the time
Like looking at the highest mountain and being moved to climb
Rather than be deterred I preferred to embrace the ways they set
Took my time and gave it away to find out what it really meant
Spent days on end trying to mend myself after neglecting who I was
Now I'm finally at my best trying to erase their lack of trust

~Windreamer~

Higher Standards, Final Installment
~
Even if it was a stupid move, that stupid move really changed my life
She put me in my place but when it happened I didn't think she was right
Now I find where her interests are and they're for the one she raised
Took a child in at a time when all she knew was so much pain and heartache
So she was taught the native ways to pray and to this day hasn't changed
There's no hint on who might have stepped in and had her attention claimed
Both have my praise and respect for handling themselves in that manner
They don't own much but they don't have need for what doesn't matter
She was taught to provide and never to hide anything she takes pride in
She's a native woman first and foremost and doesn't look for rewriting
No need for reminding her on what she already knows makes her unique
She's honest in who she is and doesn't ask to be taken off her feet
I just so happen to disagree and want to meet the standards I clearly see
I tried once, but am honored to be that close, even if though it was brief
That's why I seek more to learn even if I don't earn the place I want
I don't sing at a drum, or dance in the circle to offer them this song

~Windreamer~

Code Of Silence
~
They don’t play by the rules but always say they do
Come up on us and talk to us like we don’t have a clue
This is one way of paying dues by refusing to cooperate
Then they come with deals and promises for a name and face
If that don’t work they claim to add more time and fines
Talk about classes of offenses to add stress to the mind
Stack all the charges up and that’s leverage they try to use
With that being shown, they’re not concerned with the truth
All they want are the cues to keep interrogating on the spot
They know they got you then and there trying to prepare you to talk
Offering to let you off if you just drop a simple name in their lap
Adding to the stress they throw handcuffs on and put you in the back
Trying to chit chat about what you got to lose when you won’t budge
They don’t like snitches in their ranks and wonder why we carry a grudge
Their deals we don’t touch, but from others we just don’t know
Some are too scared to see the public eye if they’re all on their own

~Windreamer~

Positioned and Ready
~
Crazy natives on the rise and it's evident in our eyes
Lose ourselves along the way and still sound off with war cries
Never see a warrior hide, instead blind you with speed and intensity
If this is our final stand, than that's how it was meant to be
Still striving for that memory yet to make where we might break even
Staking our lives on the line cause we know the people need it
That's why we don't wing it, we're bringing a plan fully laid out
Solid stance after one last dance when the battle song rang out
Used to hear any day now, but that day we face now, ready for whatever
Forever dedicated to take this day and make it one to be remembered
Never hear we weren't ready, friendly fire was always constant
Before this day came we knew we already took some heavy losses
That started many walking with meaning in every step they took
When they talked heart to heart, you could see it in their looks
We aren't by the book, we're somewhere in between right and wrong
That's why in the face of madness, our faces stay fixed on calm

~Windreamer~
